Architecture for Everyone

Client: Architecture + Design Scotland

Architecture for Everyone (A4E) is a three year, UK wide campaign, founded on the belief that built environment professionals who reflect the diversity of the society they serve, have a better chance of creating a built environment that suits society. The project is an initiative by the Stephen Lawrence Trust and RMJM architects and was launched in 2008.

Stone Opera was approached by Architecture + Design Scotland to manage the project in 2010. A group of 18 participants took part in a 9 day workshop with the theme ‘Our Urban Playground’ which looked at design for sport and leisure in urban settings. As well as introducing urban sports such as Parkour, participants visited the London Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games site. The participants designed and built their ideas for urban playgrounds and presented these to the designers of the Athletic Village in Glasgow. The results, together with the outcome of the workshops from the other participating cities, were shown at The Lighthouse from September 2010 till December 2010.
