New Hospital For Children

Client: NHS Lothian

For the participation process for the development of the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, Stone Opera has joined forces with Creation and Creative Therapies. We were asked to focus on the participation process with the young people. The new hospital will incorporate all medical services for children, which are currently located in and around Edinburgh. Stone Opera has visited all groups involved, including 3 primary schools, and has delivered a series of workshops, taking the young people on a journey through architecture, by making and playing with space and place. The participants have come up with interesting and inspiring ideas for the building, the entrance, windows, corridors, courtyards and rooms.

We have translated the recordings from the workshops into a report which has been presented to the architect and the client.
