Ecological Village

Client: Sustainable Communities Initiative
Location: Burntisland
Time: 2010

A new ecological education centre will be built within a new ecological village in Burntisland. The pupils of P4 of the primary school in Burntisland were asked to give advice to the architect. After an introduction about using natural resources like the sun, water and wind, the pupils made their individual designs for the education centre. All pupils of the entire school (450 pupils) were asked to select the best 6 designs. These designs were then built by the P4 pupils as a scale model in the 2 following sessions. This required team work and an understanding of translating a drawing into a 3d model. The site for the education centre is located on the slope of a hill, which was a challenge for the landscape architects within each team. The architects focused on the model of the building and the details like wind turbines and water tanks.
